Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić met today with the newly appointed Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia Andreas von Beckerath to discuss continued cooperation in the process of EU accession.
Dačić stressed that the Ministry of the Interior would continue implementing priority activities under Chapter 24 – Justice, freedom and security, with the aim of aligning with EU standards.
He recalled that in the previous period key measures had been carried out in the fight against organised crime, migration and human trafficking, and pointed to the reduction in the number of irregular migrations, achieved thanks to effective cooperation with Frontex and EU partner countries.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the Ministry of the Interior is actively participating in the implementation of the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, and underlined that Serbia remains committed to rule of law and citizens’ security.
The meeting also addressed the enabling environment for the functioning of civil society, the alignment of the visa regime and visa policy, as well as the current situation in the country and the region.
Dačić wished Von Beckerath success during his mandate as Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia and expressed confidence that the successful cooperation between the Delegation and the Ministry of the Interior would continue in the coming period, in line with European values and shared objectives.
