Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić participated today, at the invitation of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, at the event "Women, Peace and Security", which was held as part of the NATO Summit in Washington.
The gathering represents one of the most important events within the Summit, which Serbia is attending as a member of the "Partnership for Peace" programme, bearing in mind that it relates to women, peace and security in the context of current political and security challenges in the world.
In this regard, the participants of the meeting had the opportunity to discuss the consequences of armed conflicts on the female population, as well as the importance of the role of women in building peace and post-conflict recovery of states.
It was also an opportunity to point out again that women are not only victims of violence and war, but that they also have a role as participants in the conflicting parties, as well as that they represent a significant factor in the negotiations, the goal of which is to establish peace.
Serbia is the second country in the region that has adopted the principles of the "Women, Peace and Security" programme, with a whole range of competent state institutions monitoring the implementation and harmonisation of those principles.
Currently, of the total number of members of the Serbian Armed Forces engaged in multinational operations, 12.59% are women.
In this way, Serbia once again confirmed its intention to actively contribute to the processes of building peace and stability, not only in its immediate environment, but also throughout the world.
