First section of Morava Corridor from Pojate to Makresane opened

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic, as well as several members of the government of Serbia and guests, attended today the opening of the section of the Morava Corridor from Pojate to Makresane, the motorway that connects the east and the west of Serbia.

At the ceremony in Makresane, Vucic pointed out that this investment is very important for us because it can bring businessmen from all over the world, to invest in this region, to bring back people who went abroad and to whom we will be able to say that it is possible here decent to live.

The President also pointed out that poles for the 4G network have been installed all over this section and will be installed for 5G as well.

US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill and British Ambassador Sian MacLeod also spoke at the ceremony..

Before the official opening, Vucic pointed out that the construction of this road and the opening of this section are important for the expansion of industrial zones, attracting foreign investors and the development of the region.

According to him, Krusevac, as the eighth largest city in Serbia, will gain a lot from this, as well as Cicevac, Varvarin, Trstenik, as well as all those who go to Kopaonik, Vrnjacka Banja, Kraljevo.

It is the first "smart" road in our country, built with a complete optical infrastructure. The Morava Corridor, from Pojate to Preljina, will be the most modern and widest motorway in Serbia, since it will be wider than existing motorways by a total of 1.6 metres.

The construction of the 112-kilometre Morava Corridor began in December 2019. The works are performed by a consortium of US Bechtel and Turkish Enka, and the contract is worth close to €800 million.

Also, the Morava Corridor will permanently solve the issue of floods, as the river flows in this part of Serbia, primarily Juzna Morava and Zapadna Morava rivers, will be regulated.
