Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic met today with the Director of the Office of the United Nations Environment Program for Europe (UNEP), based in Geneva, Bruno Pozzi.
Selakovic assessed that UNEP is an important international partner in the field of environmental protection, emphasizing that we expect intensification of cooperation with the UNEP Secretariat, as well as the offices in Geneva and Vienna.
Also, Selakovic pointed out that we see room for further cooperation through the "UNEP Strategy for the period 2022-2025", which announces continuous assistance to UN member states in dealing with environmental challenges such as climate change, pollution and loss of biological diversity.
The Minister pointed out that Serbia is committed to achieving the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda and sustainable development goals, and in that sense, he especially pointed out that our country adopted the Law on Climate Change in 2021, and that we are focused on implementing sustainable development goals and multilateral agreements, green growth and the circular economy.
As he stated, the goal is to create conditions for new jobs, energy diversification and the fight against climate change through green politics.
