Recognitions for promotion of Serbia in region, diaspora awarded

Belgrade, 10 November 2021

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic and Head of the Directorate for Cooperation with Diaspora and Serbs in the Region Arnaud Gouillon awarded today national recognitions to prominent figures from the diaspora and the region who contributed to the promotion of Serbia in various fields and the strengthening of ties of the mother land and the Serbs living abroad.

The Nikola Tesla award for merits in the field of science that promote innovative achievements of Serbian scientists was awarded to scientist Vladimir Cmiljanovic who leads a team of experts in Basel working on discovering a cure for cancer and a second-generation COVID-19 vaccine.

President of Matica Srpska in Montenegro and Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Niksic Jelica Stojanovic was presented with the Vuk Karadzic award for results achieved in preserving the Serbian language and the Cyrillic script among Serbs in the region and the diaspora.

The Slobodan Jovanovic award for contributions in the field of politics that strengthen the reputation and position of Serbia and the Serbian people in the region and the world went to President of the Serbian National Council in Montenegro Momcilo Vuksanovic.

Serbian language and literature professor Srdjan Mijalkovic from Austria was presented with the Dositej Obradovic award for contributions in the field of education and preservation of cultural, ethnic, historical and religious identity of Serbs in the diaspora and the region.

The main award, Mother Serbia, for life work and selfless commitment to strengthening the Serbian people in the diaspora went to Djordje Mihailovic – the guard of the Serbian military cemetery Zejtinlik in Thessaloniki, to whom Minister Selakovic will hand over the award in Thessaloniki tomorrow.
