Significant space for intensifying economic relations with Spain

Belgrade / Madrid, 4 May 2021

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic began his official visit to Spain today with meetings with President of the Congress of Deputies Meritxell Batet, President of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Congress Pau Mari-Klose and President of the Joint Congress-Senate Committee for the EU Susana Sumelzo Jordán.

Selakovic stated that the bilateral relations between Serbia and Spain are excellent and friendly, without open issues, and that they are characterised by mutual support on issues of vital national interests for both countries.

He assessed that bilateral political cooperation is significantly better than economic, and that Serbia wants to intensify economic relations with Spain, because there is significant space and potential for that.

In a meeting with Spanish parliamentarians, the Minister called on Spanish investors to strengthen their presence on the Serbian market, emphasizing that our country is a leader in the region in attracting foreign direct investments.

The head of Serbian diplomacy emphasised that full membership in the EU is a strategic foreign policy goal of Serbia, and that we are grateful to Spain for its support in the European integration process.

Selakovic underlined that Serbia extremely appreciates the principled position and support of Spain to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country, as well as in international organisations.
