Minister of Education and Sport Slobodan Vuksanovic:

Education reform represents a prerequisite for Serbia’s overall social-economic development. For that reason, the development of education and human resources is a form of investment.

The positive feasibility study shows that the education policy, which has a long-term, strategic character, is on the right track.

In light of basic reform principles in Serbia’s education sector and the principles for education development in Europe for 2010, further modernisation of education in our country should involve its positioning among the elements of technological, social, economic, and individual development.

In order to ensure a future in the European Union for young generations, Serbia’s education development must meet the following objectives:

1. Higher quality of education and training and the modernisation of the instruction and learning processes.

2. Easier access to education systems for all, including lifetime learning, faster employment, career development, and equal opportunities for all.

3. Harmonisation of Serbia’s education system with European educational trends.

In order to achieve these goals, we have introduced several systemic bills, such as the Law on the basics of the education system and the Law on higher education, which mark the beginning of the harmonisation of our education system with the Bologna Declaration.

Now that we have received a positive feasibility study we will have more favourable conditions for the development of education on all levels and faster harmonisation with the European Union, from which we will accept positive things yet preserve our national identity.
