Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic:

The positive assessment of the Feasibility Study is confirmation of the Serbian government’s successful work in crucial areas of the country’s EU accession efforts.

The part that refers to judiciary is particularly important for the Ministry of Justice, which means that the strenuous work we have invested during the past year gave results – from transferring military authorisations onto the Serbian judiciary, to concluding all necessary declarations and agreements on cooperation with countries in the region as well as with Montenegro.

The second part of the study relates to judicial matters and says that the Ministry and the government did a good job. Systemic laws were passed, some of which were adopted in the parliament already, while others are awaiting the parliamentary procedure.

The document confirms substantial judicial reform, but also warns of certain weaknesses, that I as minister too underlined; primarily this is court inefficiency, which must be improved by appropriately changing the personnel and by applying new laws.

Also, it is necessary to focus attention on the problem of corruption. The Ministry in cooperation with the Anti-Corruption Council should adopt the law on setting up an independent body for implementation of the action plan, which will pave the way for the period that is ahead of us, when the stabilisation and association agreement with the EU will be signed.

I am also particularly satisfied that the reform of the penal system has been completed.

For those reasons, such a study is more than satisfactory for the Serbian judiciary. The problems that the document mentions will be removed in the shortest time possible.
