Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar said that over the past two weeks, more than 2,500 doctors and nurses have been employed who were previously doing residency or had fixed-term contracts.
Loncar said in a statement to Television Prva last night that the Serbian health system currently employs more than 100,000 people, who had to quickly adapt to the new situation since the first coronavirus positive patient had been registered.
It was necessary to make a new organisation, provide enough people, train them to work and establish a system that would produce results.
The health system, he stressed, must function on two fronts - one with those who are infected with coronavirus and the other with all other patients.
We have hospitals that have to deal with emergencies other than coronavirus and these are the Bezanijska Kosa Clinical Hospital Centre, the VMA Military Medical Academy and the Emergency Centre.
The Minister underlined that experts are in charge of managing the situation and making recommendations, that is, the coronavirus crisis response team decides on the strategy and measures to be taken, after which the Ministry of Health implements these measures.
