The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have secured nearly €250 million for the repair of 240 kilometres of roads throughout Serbia, plus €60 million for the overhaul of 60 kilometres of railroads, said Ilic.
Certain railroad sections along Corridor 10, as well as sections linking Dimitrovgrad and the Bulgarian border, Kusadak and Velika Plana, and Slovac and Valjevo have already been reconstructed, the Minister said, adding that repair work is underway on a tunnel between Pirot and Nis and the railway station in Dimitrovgrad.
The Resnik-Lazarevac and the Cortanovci-Petrovaradin railway sections will be repaired in 2004, as well as bridges on the Nis-Pirot section, said Ilic. Reconstruction of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad, Velika Plana-Nis, Sid-Belgrade, Pancevo-Vrsac and Belgrade-Bar sections will follow.
The motorways connecting Novi Sad and Belgrade, Nis and Dimitrovgrad, Mali Pozarevac, Topola, Pozega and Cacak, as well as Vladicin Han and the Macedonian border are slated for repair. Regional roads and the Belgrade and Leskovac beltways will also be overhauled, the Minister added.
According to Deputy Minister of Capital Investment Bogoljub Lazic, the Ministry plans to prepare a strategy to develop telecommunications and postal services, scrap the monopoly in the telecommunications market, launch a tender for a third generation licence, sell state-held shares in mobile phone operator Mobtel, define relations among providers and create conditions for the postal market privatisation and liberalisation.
