The co-chairmen of the Joint commission for economic cooperation between Serbia and Hungary, Serbian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Goran Knezevic and State Secretary at the Office of the Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Szijjarto formally opened the newly-built border crossing Backi Vinogradi – Asotthalom.
Knezevic said on the occasion that the two countries have shown by opening the crossings to have good neighbourly relations, which is of particular importance for Serbia's EU integration with the reminder that Hungary is a significant economic partner of Serbia.
He explained that the opening of the crossings will increase the flow of passengers and goods and improve the overall successful bilateral cooperation between the two countries, and added that in this way the common strategic objectives are met, such as integrated border management.
The Minister pointed out that trade between the two countries has been rising and is expected to soon surpass the level of €1billion.
Szijjarto recalled that Hungary is engaged in support of Serbia's accession to the EU, and expressed support to our country becoming a member of the European family of nations.
He said that the opening of the crossings to improve contacts between the inhabitants of the border areas, noting that this is the sixth road crossing, which, along with two water crossings, makes a total of eight crossings between Serbia and Hungary.
The opening of a new border crossing is of great importance for increasing the flow of passengers and goods and for the improvement of the overall successful cooperation between Serbia and Hungary.
This event was also attended by State Secretary of the Serbian Ministry of the Interior Vladimir Bozovic.
