Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic sent a protest note to Secretary-General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Hamadoun Toure over a resolution of the Kosovo Assembly requesting that the international dialling code for Serbia (381) that is used for landline and mobile phones in Kosovo-Metohija be changed by the international dialling code for Albania (355).
Ljajic said in his protest note that this resolution represents a gross abuse of international agreements and standards, and in particular of relevant resolutions and recommendations of the ITU.
He requested that the ITU prevents the implementation of the said resolution, because its application in practice would mean that in the future all international traffic towards Kosovo-Metohija would go through Albania, by which the principle of extraterritorial use of international numbers would be introduced.
Such unilateral moves demonstrate that Pristina authorities are not ready to resolve complex relations between Belgrade and Pristina through dialogue and negotiations, it is warned in a statement issued by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications.
