Toplica Uprising an epic of libertarian spirit

Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic said today at a ceremony marking the 95th anniversary of the Toplica Uprising that the highest national interest and aim is to protect human life and the man's right to freedom, justice and democracy.

Cvetkovic said that Toplica Uprising was an epic of libertarian spirit that resulted in the deaths of 20 thousand people.
The one who succeeds in an effort to prevent tragedies like this one happen again is a true hero of today, he noted.
Modern Serbia has a chance only if it succeeds in preserving peace in the region, if we establish strong political and economic ties with the world. This government has chosen the path of peace, dialogue with anyone with whom we have any contentious issues, said Cvetkovic.
That is the only way to solve the problems, no matter how serious they are, and to avoid leaving such legacy to future generations, he noted.
Our mission is to preserve Serbia at the political and economic level, and primarily to maintain peace and to work in the interests of citizens. We have initiated a dialogue on Kosovo-Metohija and that is the only way to secure the survival of our population in the province, said the Prime Minister.
This is a difficult task full of temptations, he said noting that time and patience are necessary in that process.
Because of the responsibility before history and the future generations, we must not give up, he reiterated.
Serbia is turned to the future. We have chosen the path of peace and reconciliation because it offers a chance for a dignified life for every citizen, for a prosperity, cooperation, and a common future in the Balkans, he said.
The Prime Minister said that, after the tragic past, Serbia finally has a chance for a better and prosperous future, because its name, after several decades, is again pronounced with respect worldwide.
Cvetkovic explained that Serbia's future lies in modern roads, because it is the intersection of European roads, a place good for foreign investment, and a place open to both the East and the West.
The Prime Minister said that the Toplica area, apart from the economic problems, is also faced with the demographic problem, but expressed confidence that the commitment of the government of Serbia to improve agriculture will only be a first step towards the revival of villages.
I want to emphasise that today, 95 years after the Toplica Uprising, it is maybe more than ever necessary to understand the message of this historic event – the courage and wisdom are the basis our each success whilst the discord is the cause of each failure, said Cvetkovic.
