Djelic told Tanjug after meeting with German Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Michael Glos that Germany is Serbia’s central partner in the EU with $1.3 billion of total investment.
Germany is currently Serbia’s second trading partner, and we can expect it will become the first partner, and noted that it is important to note that the central theme is the energy sector, where German companies appear as Serbia’s natural partners.
The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that the two governments will create a joint declaration in the energy sector, and that economic advisor from Germany will be sent to work on harmonisation of the Serbian energy system with that of the EU.
Djelic also said that it was agreed to revitalise the German-Serbian business council established in 2003 during the mandates of Zoran Djindjic and Gerhard Schroeder, noting that Glos said he will bring an economic delegation to Serbia to begin a new cycle in the economic relations of the two countries.
On the second day of the visit, Djelic will attend a session of the Budenstag Committee for the Affairs of the EU after which he will address the journalists together with Chair of the Bundestag Committee for the Affairs of the EU Gunther Krichbaum.
After Berlin, Djelic will travel to Stuttgart and Hamburg, where he will meet with Federal Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier and a delegation of the German Social Democratic Party.
Djelic will also meet with Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Karin Kortmann and German Deputy Chancellor Franz Muentefering.
