Agum Ceku release hampers relations between Serbia, Bulgaria

Belgrade/Moscow, June 25, 2009 – First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic tonight stated that the fact that the Bulgarian judiciary has decided to release the former leader of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army Agum Ceku from prison will seriously hamper relations between Serbia and Bulgaria.

Dacic, who is participating in a Serbian-Russian business dialogue, stated to the Tanjug news agency that it is clear that Interpol cannot function effectively in this case as strong pressure is being exerted on the relevant judicial bodies.

The Minister concluded that Serbia and Bulgaria must discuss this issue as soon as possible because it will certainly hamper cooperation between the two countries concerning the fight against organised crime, war crimes and terrorism.
